The Art of the Rebrand: How Falling Apart Taught Me to Fear Not

If someone had told me years ago that one of the hardest seasons of my life would also become the foundation of Honey Tribe, I'm not sure I would have believed them.

Like many people, I used to think success looked like constant progress. You start with an idea, work hard, and eventually everything falls into place.

Life has a funny way of teaching you otherwise.

Back in 2016, I started a brand called MIDGETgiraffe (MG). It was inspired by my childhood in Nigeria, watching my grandmother sew beautiful garments with incredible care and intention. She taught me that clothing wasn't just something we wore.

It was an expression of culture, confidence, and identity.

At the same time, I was building a career in corporate accounting. By day, I worked with numbers. By night, I designed collections, packed orders, and slowly built a community around something I truly loved.

For years, it felt like I was living two lives.

And somehow, both were helping shape the person I was becoming.

As the business grew, so did my understanding of what I wanted it to represent. I also came to realize that the name MIDGETgiraffe carried an unintended meaning that could be hurtful to some people. That realization wasn't easy, but it made one thing clear.

If I wanted to build a brand rooted in confidence, kindness, and community, then I had to be willing to evolve.

So in late 2023, I made the decision to start over.

Honey Tribe was born.

What I didn't expect was everything that would come after.

Rebranding wasn't simply changing a logo or updating a website. It meant rebuilding years of brand recognition, investing financially all over again, and navigating a social media landscape that had changed dramatically. Around the same time, I also went through a painful breakup that left me emotionally drained.

Then life dealt its hardest blow.

My grandmother—the woman who unknowingly inspired this entire journey—passed away before she could see Honey Tribe become what it is today.

For a while, everything felt heavy.

There were days when I questioned whether I had made the right decision.

Days when fear was louder than faith.

Every morning, I found myself in what I called my war room. It wasn't glamorous. It was simply a quiet place where I could pray, reflect, and remind myself why I started.

During that season, I kept coming back to the last words my grandmother ever spoke to me.

"Ada, remember... fear not."

At first, those words brought comfort.

Eventually, they became conviction.

I realized that fear wasn't just stopping me from moving forward.

It was trying to convince me that rebuilding wasn't worth it.

So I made a choice.

I stopped creating from fear and started creating from purpose.

I traveled to places that inspired me creatively, including Japan, where I found beauty in simplicity, intentional design, and craftsmanship. Those experiences reminded me that growth often requires a change in perspective.

I rebuilt my team.

I rebuilt the brand.

Most importantly, I rebuilt myself.

Looking back now, I don't think Honey Tribe exists despite those difficult seasons.

I think it exists because of them.

Every challenge forced me to become clearer about what this brand stands for.

Honey Tribe has never been just about fashion.

It's about identity.

It's about helping women wear pieces that reflect who they already are, rather than who the world expects them to be.

It's about confidence that comes from within, not from trends.

It's about showing up fully as yourself.

When you wear Honey Tribe, my hope isn't simply that you feel beautiful.

I hope you feel brave.

I hope you remember that you can begin again.

I hope you realize that setbacks don't erase purpose—they often reveal it.

If you're in a season where it feels like everything is falling apart, I want to leave you with the same words that carried me through mine.

Fear not.

Sometimes life has to redesign us before it can reveal who we were always meant to become.

And sometimes the most beautiful chapters begin with the courage to start over.
