From MIDGETgiraffe to HoneyTribe: The Meaning Behind Our Name

If you've been with us from the beginning, you may remember us as MIDGETgiraffe. And if you've recently wondered, “Wait... what happened to MIDGETgiraffe?” — we're still here. We evolved. 🤎

When I created MIDGETgiraffe, the name represented the coming together of two seemingly opposite worlds. My earliest collections were deeply influenced by my Nigerian roots, with fabrics and textiles from the East interpreted through a Western lens. The name represented contrast, creativity, and the beauty that can happen when different worlds meet.

But as the brand grew, so did I. I learned that the word “midget” is considered an offensive and outdated term for little people. There was never any malice behind our original name, but intention doesn't erase impact. As a brand built around making women feel seen, welcomed, celebrated, and empowered, continuing with a name that could cause hurt no longer aligned with the community I wanted to build. So we made a change.

MIDGETgiraffe became HoneyTribe.

Why HoneyTribe?

The new name carries a meaning that is deeply personal to me. I think about Exodus 3:8, where God speaks of a “land flowing with milk and honey.” To me, honey represents divine relief — sweetness after hardship, rest after struggle, and the promise of something better.

The color of honey also reminds me of the beautiful melanated women who raised me, shaped me, and taught me about strength, femininity, resilience, and grace.

And then there's Tribe. Tribe represents community, belonging, connection, and inclusivity. It's the vision I have for HoneyTribe: a space where women from different cultures, backgrounds, body types, experiences, and walks of life can find something that makes them feel like they belong.

Because fashion has always been about more than clothes for me. It's about how you feel when you put something on. It's about confidence, expression, and walking into a room knowing you deserve to take up space.

The Next Chapter

The name changed, but the heart of what we do didn't. We're still creating bold prints, unexpected silhouettes, modern cuts, and pieces designed to give you that extra umph when you walk into a room. I want you to put on HoneyTribe and feel elevated, confident, powerful, and completely yourself.

And if you were part of the MIDGETgiraffe journey, I want you to know this: you didn't lose us. You were part of the beginning, and that history will always be part of our story.

HoneyTribe is simply the next chapter.
